Voter ID Initiative

Senator Fillingane, sponsor of the bill; the Mississippi Republican Party and Mississippi Federation of Republican Women have joined together to obtain 90,000 signatures which are required to place Voter ID on the ballot.

The goal of Voter ID is to make elections in Mississippi more fair, open, honest and the election results more trustworthy.  A voter identification requirement would help us eliminate the voter fraud that currently exists in our election system.  We ultimately want the citizens of Mississippi to have trust that their election system is accurate and void of voter fraud and cheating on election day. If you have not signed the petition, please contact Lynn Cheramie.  Time and again efforts have been made to pass Voter ID in the Legislature -- each time it is blocked by certain special interests.  The last time those special interests added in some language that was totally unacceptable resulting in proponents of Voter ID to vote against it.  To get past this impasse a ballot initiative seems to be the answer.  Let Mississipians decide the issue!

This is an effort that Republican women know how to do -- not only signing our names on the petition but getting friends and neighbors to sign as well.
